Our Design Philosophy

The development of The Research Desk was inspired by a desire to address limitations observed in existing AI chatbots, such as ChatGPT, while harnessing the powerful reasoning potential of AI large language models (LLMs). Our aim was to create a platform that overcomes these shortcomings and meets the advanced needs of researchers.

It is designed with a distinct workflow and philosophy. The platform is optimized for ideation and hypothesis development, enabling users to explore and refine concepts—unlike traditional research tools that focus solely on delivering quick, definitive answers from public sources.

Rather than starting with final conclusions, The Research Desk empowers researchers to begin with open-ended discovery. By leveraging both private and public knowledge, and allowing precise control over AI context and inputs, it supports iterative exploration, deeper insight generation, and more meaningful outcomes. It's not just a search engine—it's a thinking partner.

The Research Desk gives serious researchers end-to-end control over AI-assisted discovery across their private knowledge bases.

Within selected categories, semantic and full-text search allow the researcher to select relevant excerpts into their context area. Source excerpts can be viewed as highlighted blocks within the original PDF. Findings are curated into focused research contexts and organized as thought flows.

During chat, large language models operate strictly within the curated context. Responses include citation links that open the source PDF at the exact highlighted passage—delivering transparency, traceability, and confidence.
